Prototype has 56 skills in nine lines. Every skill runs from 0 to 100. Your pools have a cap, so you choose who you become.
How skills unlock
Skills sit in chains from parent to child. Level 30 in a skill unlocks its child. That child stays stuck at 29 until the parent reaches 60. The game puts it like this: "30 opens the next skill; 60 lets that skill pass 29."
Every skill has milestones at 0, 30, 60, 90 and 100. Many combat skills unlock a Trickmove at 100.

- Heavy: Bruiser → Breaker → Fury
- Ranged: Skirmisher → Bowman → Marksman
- Cavalry: Riding → Mounted arms → Lance

At 100, Bowman gets firework arrows, Marksman firework bolts and Skirmisher firework pots. Lance lets you ride royal warhorses. And Sapping? With that you "can shoot cows (just for fun)".
Earning XP
XP = 0.15 × action weight/100 × exp_rate × satiety (satiety 0.5–1.0)
So a full stomach gives up to twice as much XP as an empty one. A few action weights:
| Action | Weight | Action | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| Picking up a branch | 100 | Felling a tree | 600 |
| Dumping soil | 20 | Grubbing out a stump | 960 |
| Levelling | 200 | Building | 400 |
| Sawing a plank | 250 | Crafting | 500 |
| Smithing | 320 | Taming | 300 |
| Cooking | 300 | Looking for tracks | 160 (dangerous 400) |
| Digging a tunnel | 280 | Teaching | 2400 |
Difficult recipes pay more: a skill requirement of 30 gives ×1.5, 60 gives ×2.5 and 90 gives ×4. A bath in the bathhouse gives +10% XP for 30 minutes.
XP per level
- Below 30:
12 + 0.4 × L - 30–59:
35 + 1.25 × (L − 30) - 60 and above:
85 + 2.75 × (L − 60)
Dying costs XP
An ordinary death costs you 3% of your XP. A death in PvP costs 2% times your alignment: good ×1, bad ×1.5, evil ×6.
